Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
